Today was the first day of school – HOORAY! I know that a lot of people shy away from their first day on the job, but I could not have been more excited :). I had been looking forward to today since the last day of school in October (ok…maybe not EXACTLY that last day…but only really a few days after…).
For me, November had been a fairly boring month of inventory and class preparations and yes, a vacation or two, but mostly boredom. December was a mix of ups and downs, full of tia-dom and long days off and again, lots of boredom. I was TOTALLY ready for school :).
Since I live in Guatemala, of course everything wasn’t quite ready for the first day of school, so the kids didn't have their notebooks yet and instead of having all 4 of my classes for the year, I only had 2 – Primero Basico (7th grade) and Tercero Basico (9th grade). Today in class, without notebooks, pens or pencils, we played getting to know you games, created rules for my classes as a class, and just kind of settled in. While I seem to have a handful of troublemakers in my primero class, I think I'll be able to handle the 3-4 of them. And on top of that, my tercero class seems awesome :). Here are the classroom rules that the students came up with completely on their own:
I’m looking forward to getting to know all of my students and having a great year with them!
