Keeping things under wraps

When Jon first proposed, everyone’s first question was – so who are you going to call RIGHT NOW? How to answer that question? I had so many people to tell and yet it was 1 o’clock in the morning! I’m pretty sure my friends wouldn’t have cared once they discovered WHY I was calling, but I still couldn’t do it. Then I realized…almost all of my best friends were going to be visiting New York in just TWO DAYS! If I could keep everything hush hush until then, I could surprise them myself in person AND all at once – PERFECT!

The next day I woke up and started calling all my relatives. With each phone call they got a “and please don’t post anything on facebook just yet – I’m waiting to tell some of my friends.” I swore I had covered all my bases…but of course I haven’t. Within 10 hours of getting engaged there were already 2 “congratulations” on my facebook wall – what happened?? After some quick phone calls the posts were gone (sorry Marlee and Meg but thanks for the congrats!) Now just to keep the secret for the next 2 days…

On the 31st Jon and I headed into the city to spend New Year’s at Cailin’s apartment with Katelyn, Maria, Margaret, Kimi and Jenn – how perfect! We walked in and said all of our hellos…me of course wearing big, thick gloves. After that I turned and said “I know you girls were expecting me to bring my boyfriend today but I brought my fiancé instead” :). Everyone was just a little excited and we all celebrated together and took lots of pictures. We then spent a wonderful New Year’s with our fabulous host who cooked us dinner and took us to a sweet bar by her apartment to countdown to 2011. It was a fantastic way to celebrate the end of a great year and the beginning of an even better one :).
